Add a Connect Boards column on your project board
This is the step that actually links your board to the Portfolio board. Once connected, the Portfolio board can pull status from your items automatically.

On your project board, click the + icon to the right of your last column

Select Connect Boards

Choose the Portfolio board from the list

Name the column Portfolio Link

Click Done

Connect at the top-level item
For most project boards, one item — usually a group header item or the first row — should connect to the Portfolio row for the whole project. Ask your team lead which item should represent the project if it isn't obvious.
